At Washington Nutrition and Counseling Group we treat Type I, Type II and Gestational Diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is usually caused by an autoimmune disease usually forming early on in life, but sometimes forms later, resulting in a loss or malfunction of insulin, which is a hormone that speeds up the transfer of sugar from the blood and delivers it to your muscle.

Type II Diabetes is defined when too much sugar is circulating in your blood stream from the foods we eat because the pancreas which produces insulin, the hormone that speeds up the transfer of sugar from your blood and delivers it to your muscle is not working properly. Type II Diabetes usually forms later on in life, and obesity and genetics are also factors.

Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy. Like Type 1 and Type II Diabetes Blood sugars have to be controlled for the safety of the mother and baby.

At Washington Nutrition and Counseling Group we will show you how you can help control your diabetes through food. Type II Diabetes can even be reversed with weight loss and proper diet.
